How do I get started?

On first launch GoldNest asks five short questions: how you earn, your age now, the age you want to retire, and the monthly income you would like in retirement. That takes under a minute and gives you a working plan straight away.

From there, add your income and expenses under the Money tab, and your SSNIT Tier 1/2/3 details under Pension. The Home tab then answers three questions: whether you are on track, the single most useful move to make this month, and what has changed since your last visit.

Is my data private? Where is it stored?

Everything stays on your device. GoldNest has no accounts, no server and no analytics, and makes no network requests in normal use. Nobody — including me — can see what you enter.

Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. GoldNest works fully offline. The only time anything leaves your phone is when you deliberately share a plan summary or export a backup, and you choose where it goes.

How do I back up my plan, and why should I?

Settings → Your Data → Export backup. Because nothing is stored in the cloud, a backup is your only safety net if you lose or replace your phone.

You can protect the backup with a passphrase, which encrypts it with AES-256 on your device. Keep that passphrase somewhere safe: it cannot be reset or recovered, and without it the file cannot be opened by anyone.

Can I move my plan from the GoldNest web version?

Yes. Export from the web app, then in the phone app go to Settings → Your Data → Import backup and pick that file. Backups work in both directions and use the same format, encrypted or not.

Two calculations were corrected in the phone app, so a small number of projected figures may differ slightly from the web version. The app tells you when this applies to an import.

I forgot my PIN. How do I get back in?

You cannot, and that is deliberate: there is no account behind GoldNest and no recovery channel, which is the same reason nobody else can get into your plan either.

The only way back is to delete and reinstall the app, which clears its storage, then restore from a backup if you have one. This is the main reason to keep a backup.

Face ID or fingerprint unlock is not working

Check that biometrics are enrolled in your device settings first, then turn the toggle on under Settings → Security in GoldNest. The first time you enable it, your device asks for permission — you must allow that prompt.

If it still fails, the app will now tell you why rather than falling back silently. Your PIN always works as an alternative.

Where do the SSNIT figures come from?

Tier 1 projections use the published SSNIT pension formula and the contribution history you enter, including the 15-year minimum contribution requirement. The comparison figures for the current average pension are stated with the year they apply to, inside the app.

GoldNest is not affiliated with SSNIT or the NPRA. For an official projection, request a benefit statement from SSNIT or your Tier 2/3 trustee.

Is this financial advice?

No. GoldNest gives educational, illustrative estimates based on the figures and assumptions you enter. It is not regulated financial, tax, investment or legal advice. For advice specific to your circumstances, consult a licensed financial adviser.

How do I delete everything?

Settings → Reset clears your plan and returns the app to a fresh state. Deleting the app removes its storage entirely. Neither needs a request to me, because there is no copy of your data anywhere else.
